Information on area of the window, preparation, delivery and installation.
Raised ponds are becoming an increasingly popular trend, and pond glass windows offer the perfect way to view the life within your pond. Fish are naturally attracted to the window, allowing you to see them from a better angle than from above. Before you begin enjoying your pond window, it’s important to understand the key steps involved in ensuring everything runs smoothly. Please refer to our easy-to-follow guide below, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
- Specialist Pond Window Glass
- Toughened & Laminated
- Heatsoaked – this is a test done using extreme temperatures to ensure that the piece of glass has no impurities, it doesn’t make the glass stronger, it just confirms it’s purity, this reduces the chances of it spontaneously shattering
- All Edges Polished and corners Dubbed

Area of the Window
The size of the window will depend on your preferences, as glass can be custom-cut to fit. There are also various thickness options available.
To achieve a good viewing experience, the glass should be of a suitable depth. A good standard size would be anything with a depth greater than 500mm and a length of at least 900mm—about the size of a 40-inch TV. This size is not too large, but it allows for a clear view of plenty of pond life action. However, you are free to choose whatever size you prefer.
| Glass Thickness | Size of Glass Window |
| 21.5mm | up to 400mm deep and 1400 wide |
| 25.5mm | up to 550mm deep and 1600 wide |
| 33mm | up to 900mm deep and 2000mm wide |
Top Tip:
Glass thickness is determined by both the size and depth of the pond, as well as the size and position of the viewing window. If the glass is installed at the top of the pond, such as in an infinity-style design, thickness is less of a concern. However, for larger and deeper ponds, thicker glass is required due to increased water pressure.
As a general guide, the glass length is usually half the length of the longest side it is being installed into. For example, for a 4-metre-long pond, a 200 cm glass panel would typically be used.
Preparation for the Glass Window
Once you’ve decided on the glass, the next step is understanding how it will be fitted. A rebate needs to be created on the water side of the pond. To create this, it will depend on the way the pond has been made. Bricks / breeze can create a rebate by cutting out the brick work. The glass can then sit on the bricks / breeze blocks. 25mm Kingspan insulation boards can also create the rebate.

The rebate should generally be the same thickness as the glass. For example, if you are using 25.5mm thick glass, the rebate should be 25.5mm, ensuring the glass sits flush against the inside wall. We recommend allowing 10cm of space on either side of the glass, with a minimum of 5cm.

Important Note: The pond liner should be fitted after the pond glass is installed.
Delivery of the Pond Window
Glass can be very heavy, so be sure to have two people available to handle it. While the size of a 40-inch TV might seem manageable for one person, keep in mind that the weight of the glass will be much heavier than that of a modern, thin TV.
The amount of assistance needed for delivery will depend on the size of the glass. We offer glass clamps and suction cup holders, which can be purchased as part of a fitting kit that includes the glass and sealant.
We now use a 2 person delivery team that can bring the glass into the property. Typically, the glass is delivered on a van with a glass stillage, but depending on the size, it may be lifted off for easier handling.
Glass is delivered loose with no packaging; please be well-prepared for delivery.
We can provide glass suction cup holders that can handle up to 100kg. Please contact us regarding this.
The lead time from the order date to delivery is approximately four weeks. We will contact you regarding delivery arrangements. We use a courier service for delivery.
Panels larger than 4 meters in width may incur extra charges due to being classified as oversized. You can contact us before placing your order for more details.
Glass must be inspected and rejected if there are any defects at the point of delivery. After this point, any issues covered under warranty. Please check for scratches, lamination smudges, chips, etc., before signing for your glass. This is very rare but will save time and effort should you encounter any issues.
Deliveries are not guaranteed. Although over 97% of deliveries run smoothly, some may encounter problems and/or delays. We request that you do not book installation before the goods arrive. We will not compensate for failed, delayed, or other delivery issues.
We will not be responsible for any glass failure due to incorrect size or thickness being ordered. We assume you have done your research and know what you need to order.
As each pane is made to order, by placing the order, you accept that you have 48 hours to cancel or amend it. We can attempt to make changes or cancel afterward, but there may be fees, which will be advised upon request.
Installation of the Pond Glass Window
Installing the glass requires at least two people. Having too many people involved can make the process inefficient, as individuals may work at cross purposes. Before lifting the glass, make sure everyone is clear on their roles. Always move the glass slowly, and use heavy-duty suction lifters for added safety and control.
Before fitting the glass, apply MyPond MS300 silicone to the area. To soften the silicone, place it in a warm bucket (but not boiling water) for about 30 minutes. Cut the tip of the silicone tube halfway down to ensure more silicone flows out. Apply the silicone around the window opening.
Insert one side of the glass through the window opening, then move the other side into position. The side that was inserted last should be the first to be fitted, as it will provide a better angle for installation. Check that everything is level, and use clamps to hold the glass in place.
If you need to remove the clamps, ensure that at least one clamp is securely in place at all times. You may need to remove a clamp if you are applying more sealant. However, only remove one at a time. Since the sealant is still setting, make sure one clamp is keeping the glass in place.

Once the liner is in place, cut it so that it overlaps the glass. Use MyPond MS300 sealant to bond the liner to the glass. The clamps can typically be removed the day after fitting.

We also provide glass jump guards that can be installed on the top of the raised pond.
