Table tops come in all different shapes and sizes. Two of the most common shapes are oval (or ellipse) and racetrack. However, many people aren’t sure how to define or measure them properly. Below, we explain how to identify each shape using images and give you the instructions you’ll need to measure them correctly.
Oval or Ellipse Table Tops
For oval or ellipse-shaped table tops, we require the overall width and length, as well as the side parts highlighted in green in the diagram. These side measurements help us understand the curvature or “bend” of the table.

There are many different manufacturers that produce oval tables, and their designs can vary significantly. That’s why the green measurement is important, it allows us to determine the true shape of your table accurately.
Once we receive your measurements, we will send a proof for you to confirm before production.
Racetrack Table Tops
For racetrack-shaped tables, we need the overall width and length, as well as the straight-line width before the curve begins. This helps us determine exactly where the curved edges should start.
Refer to the diagrams below to see how this measurement is taken the length is measured up to the beginning of the curve.
Recommended Glass Thickness
For both oval and racetrack shapes, we recommend a 6mm or 8mm thickness. These shapes are often used for large dining or garden tables, so a solid thickness ensures better durability and support.
